Another band that should have been bigger; especially considering the lineup. They had one album filled with catchy, power pop rock songs in the Bryan Adams mode.

The group consisted of Ian Lloyd, former lead singer of Stories, Bruce Fairbairn, Jim Vallance, Jimmy Lowell, Andrew Kirin, and Patrick Mahassen.

How about Missing Persons? Terry Bozzio on drums, his wife Dale on vocals and Patrick O'Hearn (played with Zappa) on bass. I forget who the keyboard player was. Always wondered why they weren't more popular or sold more records.

He had 3 or 4 albums or EP's in the 80's. He was really great and I still have most of his albums.

How about this from Hunters and Collectors, more greatness from Oz, and one of the meanest sounding surf styled tunes IMHO:

or perhaps something more obscure and noir-ish, ClockDVA:

great bass lines in both of these

I still have an Ideal album. That Annette Humpe is hot. She sang background with Trio sometimes.

I just this year discovered the Indie pop band The Flatmates listening to a local indie radio station (WMBR 88.1 FM in Cambridge).

Here's a video jukebox of 'em:

Yes! Anything from the Completion Backward Principle CD. One of my favorites from the 80's.

Yes. Not sure if they're obscure enough for this thread. They were really fantastic.

Blue Murder- Jelly Roll:

Not sure why they called it that, but quintessential 80's all the way. What caught my ear was the fretless bass, which I'd never heard in a 80's metal song. After years of trying, I got the hair down but could never quite nail this bass line!

Staying in the Aussie theme, I always liked the song Crazy from Icehouse:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzMaptbNMRw

I played and sang this in a cover band when it came out and it killed. What's funny is the original video, which looks like it was done with one long camera take:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QS5mPQKf8Rw

The sparks coming of the wall for no apparent reason just kill me, probably because of this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xs4v-zexx8M

Patton Oswalt's take on 80's metal. Hilarious, but NSFW language and delicate ear holes, so turn it down first!

Love the bass tone, love the Wal. Just not sure it's a Wal on the original recording though.

That song is not from the 80s. It is from 1998.

If you guys are into the alternative 80s stuff, check out somafm.com's "Underground 80s" channel. A lot of y'all mentioned songs they play on the regular.

How about Thompson Twins - Watching ?
Tripped out video, fantastic bassline, I love this kind of stuff!
