Are there any new band that are as good as the 70s and 80s legends such as Led Zeppelin,...

Here's a clip of them live with Dave Grohl on drums... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1OscnPQrE4 |

Plain and simple, argue all you want. Now music snobs will bring up some obscure stuff 99.9% of the people haven't heard of. |

I'm also a huge Beck fan, and I think his music is some of the best stuff being made today.

File sharing and the like. The devision of quality from the master-then-reel to reel-(early) CD-album-cassette etc has been wiped out with advances in digital compression. Buying the original source is no longer a priority. To control the dollars..control the source..so music is being metered out with very little initial investment compared to big albums of the past where $20,000,000 may have gone into a M Jackson production in 1988 now the high side of productions is in the tens or hundreds of thousands for bands for rappers even less.
Its good to see young players ask about tone and EQ and FX. In order to change the industry is going to depend on creating a NEW demand.... I think that will be in the area of LIVE performances. This will in turn create a demand for high quality recordings for realistic playback this is where SACD and DVDA would have made it harder to share those huge files as opposed to people being happy with MP3s |

So I have to say yes, plenty of good stuff if you take the time to look and look beyond whats on the radio as well

Belle & Sebastian are making some great music that could well compare to the classic pop bands. Mike Patton's various projects are very great and Dillinger Escape Plan is making some of the freshest metal ever.
So yes, in my opinion there are still bands out there making great music that very well stands up to the classic rock bands.
And oh, did I mention the Flaming Lips? |

| | | | For your standards Muse might be new. Furthermore Queens of the Stone Age and Wolfmother like already mentioned are solid contenders and just because I can I'll just give you a list: Frans Ferdinand, Kings of Leon, Kasabian, Foo Fighters, The Kooks, Incubis, MGMT (these guys are just to good), Wombats and The Arctic Monkeys.
And no this is not being elitist if I wanted to be an elitist I would post this list: Justice, Soulwax, LCD Soundsystem, CSS, Death From Above 1979, Does it offend you Yeah! and Samian Mobile Disco.
Now you can call me a music elitist :P | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
