I just got her self-titled album on iTunes and it's really good. Her style is R&B without the heavy hip-hop influence that ruins most of what's known as R&B these days. The bass lines are good, solid, thumpin', old school grooves and the vocals are sweet and clean. I was just wondering if anybody else had heard of this girl. If not, get on over to iTunes and grab the whole album. You'll dig it. |

I dig her style. Her voice is sorta like an old jazz singer. Almost whisper like! I have her cd. It's good. |

It's like really good disco music. Is that an oxymoron? Not anymore! I love every bassline on the whole cd! It's so ol' school!!! It's like a groove text book! Although, the acoustic version of "Put Your Records On" is a lot better than the album version - even though there's no bass in it. You ought to go and grab it on iTunes.
BTW - Can you tell that I'm really excited? I wasn't sure if it was showing.

Here's a version that seems to have a fair amount of bass in the mix, although I skeptical that everything is "live". I think maybe just the vocals are live. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bN85G...elated&search=

If you don't have the whole cd, GET IT NOW!!! Listen to the Bass on "Til It Happens To You", "Like a Star" and "Call Me When You Get This". It's not flashy, just rock solid groove.

After a while though, it started to wear on me. Probably just a little "too" sweet for me. OTOH my wife loves it.
In any event she's very talented, plays bass among other things and no doubt she'll be very successful. |

I really like it so far. I can see someone not liking it for being "sweet", but I actually have a soft spot for sweet sounding female singers, especially ones who happen to be solid musicians like Corinne Bailey Rae.

Again, initially it was cool, eventually I just wanted to hear her change gears if possible. I like it, I was kind of surprised at how quickly I got tired of it.
Maybe it's just jealousy... she's cute as hell, singing in that cute voice and there's not one damn thing I can do about it . maybe I feel like she's taunting me... maybe that's it. Maybe if I get a ladder, two sticks of butter and a strong rope...
nah, that's DW's gig. |

Personally I think she's really good - a bit like Stevie Wonder-lite - but whhat concerns me is how such young artists are have such high expectations heaped on them by record labels - the media also are always hungry for some 'quality' acts to heap praise on - when in point of fact they aren't that amazing. Bailey Rae is cool but there are other very talented female artists around who are better.
Just my $0.02

Usually, all they have to do is be good looking and be in the right place at the right time and the entertainment industry latches on and puts them on this pedestal of very intense hero worship and the public eats it up. Then, we find out that this hero is a flawed human being and the industry dumps them in the trash, after E, SNL, Comedy Central and all the late night talk shows have humiliated them until it's not remotley funny anymore. Of course, they're not innocent victims either. Most of them buy into the hype and start acting like they're some kind of gods or something. That's why entertainment sucks. Back in the day, if you were talented, you could be butt ugly (Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, almost every other rock band) or fat (Meat Loaf, Aretha, Etta James) and be a huge star for 20, 30, 50 years. I don't know if that's ever going to happen again. Sorry about the rant.

The bassist was really groovin and at the end of the verses was hitting some awesome chords. He was playing a 5 string White Fender Jazz through and ashdown 4x10 with ashdown head. She also had a cookin horn section and a drummer with very awesome beats | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
