I also heard a podcast the other day with 5 of Les' favorite albums, and they play a bit from the new one during it. You can find that here: http://www.mp3.com/features/stories/4646.html
Les sent out a bulletin on Myspace with the link |

The first song is downright weird and kinda worried me (Back Off Turkey), I liked it better the 2nd time through.
The 2nd song, One Better I had actually heard on this months Relix CD that comes with the mag. I like this one a lot, featuring Skerik's unmistakable Sax, and Mike D bangin away on the vibes (maybe xylaphone actually) in the background. Very Frog's sounding of course considering the personel.
Lust Stings is number 3, and this one kinda reminds me of a tribute to King Crimson or something. I havent heard much of KC, but this song reminds me of the few songs I have heard. The drums are kinda simplistic throughout the album I noticed at this point. It works ok though. This one also reminds me of earlier Primus cuts and is a little more raw.
Will write more as I listen.....I heard first 4 songs in the car on the way back from lunch, and now at my desk listening through from the begining.

Verson the Company Man is track number five. This one has some nice Sitar in it, and is a bit of a departure for Les, allthough maintaining his style.
Phantom Patriot sounds a lot like Sausage to me. Again with Skerik on this track. I dig this one a lot.
Iowan Gal is a great song. Reminds me of Ween. Kinda an old sailors dity that Les likes to do. Almost just bass in this, but played very much like a sitar to me. |

Rumble of the Diesel is a little different, but I like it a lot. Skerik and Mike D on this one as well. It reminds me of Primus stuff from Antipop. |

It seems like he's really exagerating his vocal inflections and phrasing in a way that's pretty grating. And that's coming from a longtime fan of his music. I thought it seemed a little uninspired. Maybe it will grow on me though. I look forward to seeing his band live later this week. I just hope he got a guitar player back in the fold. |

| | | | I'm very disappointed. Didn't care much for all those jambands but this one takes the cake. It sounds uninspired to me.

His best stuff is the stuff he did with Primus, Frog Brigade and C2B3, IMHO.
There are a couple of good tunes on the new one, but the rest reeks of filler to me.

| | | | "One Better" and "Rumble of the Diesel" are my two favorite tracks, the rest are, well, decent. I never really get into too much of Les's solo projects. The first sitar bit in "Filipino Ray" is very cool. Iowan Gal is a decent song, but I may be a tad bit biased (I live in Des Moines, Iowa). This is all coming from a long time Les fan who has every Primus CD, along with every released side project/solo CD. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
