Is Anyone Else as Excited about the new Chickenfoot CD as I am?

I have never been a huge Van Halen or Sammy Hagar fan, but liked "Van Hagar" when I was a teenager.

Anyways, reading about how much of a d!@k EVH has been to Hagar and Michael Anthony, it is cool to see them hook up with Chad from the RHCP and Satriani.

I have heard 3 of the songs on the CD and they really "out Van Halen" Van Halen IMO.

Satriani's playing is obviously a shredfest but in a tasteful way, Chad's drumming is great (he is MUCH tighter than Alex VH IMO) and it seems Anthony is actually allowed to play bass (he sounds damn good vs. the 8th notes on the root he was forced to play in VH). Hagar's voice sounds like it did back in the 80's!

In any case, I think this CD is going to be really big.

Thoughts?

I can't wait for it and I pretty much agree with your sentiment

I'm pumped about it, too. I'm not a huge Satch fan or RHCP fan, but I like Sammy and Michael. Michael's background vocals were always incredible in Van Halen and I love how he changed his style to fit the band as they evolved. Plus, they both seem like sane, cool, laid back guys that you'd actually want to hang out with as opposed to the rest of the VH crew. I hope it's very successful for all involved.

it's striking how prominent the bass is in the mix of the songs-

compare with even VH's For Unlawful... album, which has the bass loud by VH standards- eg. "Pleasuredome" where you have to listen through headphones to pick up all the fills that MA's playing.

Very much so - huge Satch fan who's been waiting since he talked about doing a "band project" around 1993, MA & SH fan who's in the "they deserved better" side, and a fan of RHCP's rhythm section where Chad doesn't get the chance to "rock out" as much as I think he would like.

I'm a huge Satriani fan, I see G3 every time they come around. I like Hagar except for his higher pitched voice, it annoys me like Robert Plants. If he can keep his vocals in the mid area I'm sure I'll like the CD.

Hey thanks for the link! I think it's going to be a really good CD. After hearing the clip of "Runnin' Out" I just hope there's not too much politics involved. I think musicians should shut up and sing. Other than that, I will be picking it up ASAP.

Just read about "Chickenfoot" in Bass Guitar Magazine, picked up on a whim.
Checked out "Soap on a Rope" on Youtube, then listened to clips on iTunes.

Just downloaded the album, with the bonus track. Listening to it as I type. Great stuff!

And you're right, Baird6869, M. Anthony actually gets to play REAL bass parts now!

IMHO, I highly recommend the disc.

Very cool CD. I like Michael Anthony's bass parts, but I wish he picked more spots to stand out. There was one move he made that sounded really badass and I wish there were more of those.
