Anyone into Stinking Lizaveta? Really great prog/metal

Sign in to disble this ad
A couple of nights ago there was a show in Providence that featured a band called Stinking Lizaveta. I didn't get to go because I'm in New York going to school, but I heard about how great they are and now I feel bad for missing them. Anyone else heard of them?

Apparently, it's two brother's (one of which kind of looks like Ian Andersen) and a lady drummer (who can really lay it down...there was a thread a few years ago about whether girls could lay it down hardcore the same way boys can...between this one and Kim from Matt & Kim, I'd say they do alright.) Tearing **** up on a kind of Rush tip w/ electric Upright bass and doing a damn good job at it, because anyone playing prog who can get me to listen twice must be doing something right.

Prog is making a bit of a comeback, between Hella, Lightning Bolt, Green Milk from the Planet Orange and others, a lot of prog fans have redone the genre, made it more self-concious so the wankery is more bearable, or, heaven help us, enjoyable.

I saw them last year on tour with Clutch. They put on a pretty good show, but I kind of wish they were touring with a worse band. Clutch kind of outshined em with the two hour long set marathon they played.

SL sounded good though.

Cool. I like them.

Here I found them on myspace if anyone wants to hear recorded material. The guitar player looks like my high school art teacher.

Wow, checked the clip. They sound pretty rad! They are playing in Richmond tonight, so maybe I'll check em out.

I don't really care for it.

But I love seeing balding old dudes getting up and rocking out. This whole rock-is-for-the-young-and-beautiful thing has got to go.
