Sign in to disble this ad
Hello people. Is anyone aware of Willie Weeks's playing. I was listening to Donny Hathaway's live album and i love his playing on Little Ghetto Boy and Whats Going On, and a few Chaka Khan tracks... does anyone know of any other soul albums he has played on.

Any suggestions?

I saw him with Clapton this past Wednesday night and was very pleased. I remember him from my old George Harrison LP's. Always liked his style!

From those recordings, I really love "The Ghetto" and "Everything Is Everything". I never get tired of listening to them, and I try to play them when I need to "study", rather than just learn material. A very good local bassist urged me to learn those bass lines, and that when I could play them, I would be able to play anything.

Can't play every *bit* of them, of course, but its fun to try.

I have a bass that he played on during his tour with Vince Gill in Japan.... it's tucked away in my closet at home.

His work with Donny Hathaway was my favorite.

Hey, there is a recent John Scofield disc that is all Ray Charles covers that Mr. Weeks is on. Also Steve Jordan and cool guest vocalists. I highly reccommend!

Thanks for the discography, listening to the above had me wondering what else he's done.

I had the good fortune to have dinner with him a couple years ago in Nashville (at the now defunct Houston's) - what a super nice guy - very easy to talk to. We were talking about EUBs (he said he had been playing some upright with Vince and was thinking about something more portable) and I wound up taking him out to the parking lot and setting up my Clevinger for him to check out. Obviously a memorable night.

I love the tracks he plays on john mayer's continuum, and herbie hancock's possibilities.

"you can see every album he played on."

I wish that was true, but the reality is that allmusic.com lists only the credits that have been reported to them, not by any means ALL of any musician's credits.

I was very active, as a musician, in the session scene in Los Angeles from 1973-1978. A lot of those LP jackets didn't list the musicians . . . so those LPs (Tom Jones, Johnny Mathis, Osmonds, Al Wilson, Johnny Bristol, etc, etc, etc) don't show up on either of the two listings that are in my name. But one of my credits (Roy Buchanan - "Loading Zone) appears on BOTH of my listings! And one of my credits (Jackie DeShannon "You're the Only Dancer" produced by Jim Ed Norman) appears on the credits page of a country singer-guitarist(with the same name as me)! His listing also has 2 entrys from another guy (RIP) with the same name, a disco singer and Porno star.
I also find it interesting that my more recent, Grammy award winning work is not listed, even though my name is clearly credited as "ingeniero" or "ingeniero de mezcla" in the CD booklets.
I have sent many e-mails and "corrections" to allmusic.com, to try to consolidate all the info pertaining to my work in one listing, but to no avail . . . they've still got it all wrong.

So, be advised. You can learn SOME of the credits of your favorites by checking allmusic.com, but if it's anything like on my page(s) there, you'll only see about 10% of the work of any ones' career there.
