APPARTMENT NOISE RESTRICTION

Sign in to disble this ad
My Neighbours living under my room me seems to not like my late sessions.

As everyone know BASS TRAVELS and I made my room more soundproof about a week ago by adding 2,5 inch eggcrate foam on every wall with bass absorbes for the corners and foam corners as well.

THIS WEEK I'LL BE INSTALLING MAPLE FLOATING FLOORS AND WAS WONDERING WHICH MATERIAL SHOULD I USE UNDERNEATH IT ?

WILL JUST THE REGULAR 0.5 INCH FOAM THAT THEY SELL WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE ?

I WANT A HOUSE

I agree.

Maybe old carpet or blankets...or sound proofing material sold online? How loud do you play?

Too true.

The only thing that stops bass is some sort of dense material or distance.

Extra layers of sheet rock.

Cements walls.

Practice in a basement.

Move far away from neighbors.

Bass does travel far in an apartment setting. You should either turn down, practice when they aren't home or use headphones.

I know it sucks but what do you do?

Heavy rugs is a good idea. Something to try anyway.

Unless I am missing something or this is an upright, use headphones.

WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING???

Headphones...or move.

OR...are they being unreasonable? Ask other tenants then ask your super to get involved.

Do you think that adding carpet to my floor is gonna help for the people under me to cut a bit the bass ? or is floating floor with foam underneath can help also ?

Ok You guys need to understand something, I am just looking for a solution to cut the sound a bit so I can play bass with my practice amp at a reasonable level without using headphones. I mean I wanted tips on the flooring issue, Im smart enough to judge what is tolerable or not. I use my headphones pass 10pm but during the day and while recording I like to ear myself.

thank

Not trying to be a pain, but if it is truly late night let your neighbors sleep. Nothing short of moving to a standalone house or buying about 1000 dollars worth of dampening material is going to fix your issue.

You could also get an isolation box for your amp but headphones are just as good.

Turn up your music on the stereo to an "ok" level (ok as in, this will probably not be disturbing for neighbors), then turn up the amp to fit that level, ie. make sure you don't totally drown the music on the stereo with your bass amp sound.

Turn off the music, how loud is the bass amp now?

What can help is if you put your amp on a chair/stand or something so the bottom of the "cab" doesn't have direct contact with the floor, same goes with walls, move the amp a meter or so out from the wall etc.

Then there's the "keep the TV set on half loud when practicing" , for some reason people tend to accept neighbors TV sound at higher level than their stereo ... And bass sound will be "masked" by the TV ... (at least for your neighbors).

thanks my amp is already of an auralex gramma stand but guess that adding carpet underneath might help

Go Norman Bates on the neighbors....

Try to move the amp more up from the floor, put a thick carpet on the floor as well, but move it half a meter up from the floor and see if them neighbors stops complaining ...

Sorry to butt in but I think the OP is getting a bit frustrated here. What he's asking is if there is any type of flooring he can install or what to put underneath a maple floating floor to help cancel the sound a bit.

Best of luck to you Frederick. Luckily for me, I'm in a standalone house and I'm pretty fortunate to have neighbors that are already deaf!
