Appreciating John Paul Jones

Jones, is the consummate musician, which is in part, what makes him such a great bassist. On this track his part is supportive yet virtuosic.

By performing all the other instruments, it provided an additional insight to how well his bass playing both compliments, yet stands on its own.

Some examples for your consideration. (I took a few liberties -- and the bass is a bit more "upfront" , naturally, but all the parts are pretty true to the original).

Not often used as a showcase but a great bass part.

The classic.

More on the corny side for Zep but very cool bass playing.

That's one of the ways he reminds me of Jamerson, besides his note choices, his lines work in the songs and stand alone as great melodic phrases joined together with impeccable taste and drive, always going somewhere interesting and resolving in interesting ways.
