Atreyu - I can hear a jazz shuffle

Sign in to disble this ad
My current band loves Atreyu, so I picked a random song to listen to. I've been listening to a lot of jazz as of late and I can hear a good shuffle groove going on. It's a shame too, that the bass isn't prominent in the song. All the more reason to take liberties with it and throw as many walking lines as I can at it.

I love that Atreyu song. It definitely has that sweet jazz shuffle feel.

Another rock band that really uses some jazz influences is Dredg. At least, on this this song, they use tenor and bari sax. Props to the tenor sax player for being able to hold a good improv groove over that rock feel.

By the way, don't be attention to bassist. He doesn't do anything exceedingly amazing during the song, but the jazz influence is there.

Oh yeah, I can feel room for a nice walk during the "slower" verses of the song. Not sure if it would really stand out during the chorus though. I think I might play around with this tomorrow. This is one of their better songs.

Will also give me a chance to rod the hell out of my new QSC power amp and see how it does under some pressure!

I'm in the process of writing a top-notch line to follow suit with the guitar solo.

It's a shame, I mean, the drumming is a dead-give away to me (as I do drumming on the side). It's obvious to me, the shuffle feel, but the aesthetic is lost on all of the lay-people listening to the song.

How have you not heard this one? http://youtube.com/watch?v=8Fa74btBwVI

Screaming is still there:

Personally I'd stay away from the Faith No More cover.

I'm surprised to hear they're still together, actually. I liked their first album and I saw them live...then it was like they dropped off the earth. Looks like I haven't missed much.

I really despise screaming, but this song has potential to be "cool"

That's why I was so excited to hear it. There's just so much potential, might even rearrange the song structure and include extra long fills.

I would like to hear your arrangement when you are finished. Would you be able to record your version? I would be happy to record mine when I get some time to work on the song. I don't wanna force ya or anything, I am just curious to see what you have in mind.

Whoa.... i could've sworn these guys were of the heavier sort, this stuff sounds like My Chem lol. That's not really a bad thing just a really unexpected thing, hehe. I can definitely hear the shuffle but i need to listen to it with some headphones on to hear the walk, laptop speaker love to cut out as much bass as possible .

That is not a jazz shuffle.
That's just a shuffle feel... It doesn't have any jazz characteristics.

I may or may not have time to do any recording (for personal use). I'm in a new band now and my priority is to get up to speed on their songs. But I'll certainly record when I find the time.
