Any opinions on this recording? Do you agree with me
that Jaco's solo on this version of Donna Lee sounds better
and more inspired than on the version from the Montreal
concert?

Hmmm...the sound quality is pretty poor - the drums sound like tin cans and the bass is pretty indistinct? I found it unlistenable after a few minutes.

Thanks for posting this! Man - I'm loving it. Random thoughts as I give a second listen...

Brecker's tone is incredible, and his ideas in that solo are worthy of a master class in improvisation.

Mintzer. What do you say? That tone...and those flurries...on that instrument. It's so wild to hear him now vs. then.

Erskine...he just swings HARD. Totally in his element, and just all over it!

Jaco's solo is just flat-out ridiculous, but I really love what he was doing under the other cats. For those who question whether Jaco could fulfill the role of the bass player (and there were certainly times where his demons prevented him from doing so) this video is a must see. Not only does he swing, but he provides ALL the harmony...challenging the other guys and also giving them a home base. Who needed piano or guitar when you had Jaco?

Thanks again. To my ears (and eyes), this really is an example of Jaco at his finest. He was on his game, listening, rock solid, and musically adventurous. This is bass player inspiration at its best, and I'm using DownloadHelper via FF to save this one for future lessons in humility.

Do you mean that Jaco's solo was ridiculously bad
or ridiculously good?

If you only listened to a couple of minutes then
you missed out on Jaco's awesome solo which is clearly audible. Jaco's solo starts at 5:26 if you want to
give it a second chance.
