Bad Dub

Guys,
We're having trouble with over-dubby (ultra low bass) in this recording. It sounds pretty nice on my mac's little speakers, actually...BUT as soon as I listen to it with a small sub. It BOOOOOMMMSSSS.

Anywho, our band has a very good drummer and I like to think that I play a little more bass than the usual rock-rootnote-rocker. How do we add seperation in the low end? I've heard to eq the drums a little higher?

This was a fun mix and I know it will only get better.

I agreee..Good drummer indeed.
Cool stuff.I don't have the answer to help..though it seems the 2 of you are sharing alot of the same freqs.
You may have to alter your tone a bit to get away.

Sounds like your overall mix is a little low-mid heavy. Try scooping a bit out with a soft Q based around 100Hz and adding a slight bump with a sharp Q up around 300Hz maybe?

Add a little sizzle to the drummers kick drum to add a bit of clarity, and maybe just a touch more overall high end EQ to the mix.

I have this problem fairly regularly when mixing my band's recordings, and have found ways to circumvent it. In my experience it is caused largely by improper eq'ing of the kick and/or bass.

I am unable to listen to the recording now, but I will listen at home tonight and try to figure out the problem.

Thanks, fellas. Grantedd it was a very quick "modern" style mix. These don't usually work out so well for us. I'll keep everyone updated on the process

Please keep on giving me ideas though.

It's funny that as soon as we did this video and I played along to the track with my big rig through a camera mic.... the bass popped out and I want that tone.
