Hey, I just started this band out with some friends, just for fun, after ending a rather nice band, that gigged pretty often, but had an ass guitarist and singer. So the drummer and I paired up with some guitar friends, and did a couple numbers. Listen mostly to Shades Of Black, it's long, but is pretty cool, enjoy! http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...endid=93198670
- thanks,
- Felix
PS: These were recorded with one mic. set up in the room, so don't expect anything of great quality, just warning you.

In Raged Against the War, the singer is...offkey a lot. In one part it also sounded like the drums were trying to drive a fastbeat, making it busy, but the vocals were going slow. It sounded more busy than like a fast driving song, so that's not so good a thing.
In Sorry Apology I loved the intro, but again the vocals aren't that great, especially when he breaks the vocal line by taking breaths in really odd places, not to mention I can barely hear him, let alone understand him. Again, offkey.
Overall, I think there's potential for it, but you need to work on the beat, and when the singer isn't doing a busy beat, don't let the drummer or anyone else. Unity is a big thing, but for the vocalist, get him something so he can hear himself, because he goes offkey a lot. I'd also suggest just getting him real voice lessons, to help his intonation, and apparent lack of...emotion, at least from what I can tell.
Next time, try recording it several times with a metronome in the background, and each time move someone else closer to the mic, so that you can mix it down and make someone more hearable, like the vocalist.
Don't get pissed at me for a simon-esque critique...after a long time of being around and involved with music (piano 9 years, trumpet 7, voice 2-3, not to mention other instruments) I get sort of....picky... |

I see what you're getting at, and yes, I do agree about the vocals, yes, he's new, but he's actually improved alot, still not there, but give it a month, and it should be good.
Our drummer admits to being thrown off (by me) and trying to play catching up, whiched caused that rushing sensation throuout the song. He now listens more to that guitar, than to me, since I prefer playing on the off-beats anyways.
Thanks for the detailed response, I was hoping someone would be critical, and to the point. Thanks, I'll post some improved ones later on this week, or in the coming weeks.
