| It tends to sound very drony and dark. Reverb I find helps with filling out the soundscape, but that causes its own problems in that its overuse tends to make for a very distant sound.
I've been doing a guitar/vox/bass solo thing for a couple of years now. Currently I have no tunes ready for primetime, but I'd be happy to email you a couple of WIP drafts so you can see what I'm doing - although you may not be interested in my sound at all, as I tend to use multiple simuletaneous melodies on six-string and vox, as opposed to a vocal melody and chordal harmonies, as is typical.
...in other styles, i.e. more conventional ones, it works fine - my own band was drumless for nearly its entire run, and I personally thought we sounded much better sans drums. Having no percussion tends to place greater responsibility on the bassist, but also a greater freedom.
It can work, it just depends on how you swing it. The tunes will, of course, have to be written for a two-part instrumentation - don't expect tunes written with drums to work too well.
Hope that helps.
