Band's first mastered recordings

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everyone,
I was hoping some people could listen to our stuff at www.myspace.com/threewaystereo .
We have just finished recording and mixing our first four song EP, which was done at home, and then we took it in to be mastered. I would appreciate any feedback about the bass, or thoughts about the quality of the mixing/mastering, and also maybe what you think of recording at home and then mastering in the studio.
Thanks,
Adrian

Sound quality is good. Your vocalist sounds just like the strokes frontman...dont know if thats what you're going for... but thats what it sounded like to me. The music didn't really feel catchy to me... but sounded good for a first effort.

Thanks for the input. We definitely like the Stokes, but as for whether he is trying to sound like Julian... I can only guess. I've learned that telling singers how to sing is gutsier than I like to be.

You think so? I was kinda on the other side of the fence. No sparkle on the top end, drums are down and dull, vocal is dull, bass is a little hot...it almost sounds like an unmastered recording ripped down to 96 or below.

respectable work for a home studio project I dug the music itself.

Thanks for the feedback. What do you mean by the bass being a little hot?

I really liked "Paper Cranes". As far as the sound quality, it doesn't sound bad, just not crisp and clean. That sounds negative, but I mean it in a good way. I'm trying not to use the phrase or discription "retro" I don't want to lable your music or your sound, but that's the phrase that comes to mind. I does sound recorded in a more, umm non studio , environment, but I like that.

The overall sound seems to fit the music in a nice way. In the quieter passages there is good definition on the ride cymbal, the rest of the instruments balance nicely, and the overall balance seems good.

I listened to paper cranes the most, and if I were going to suggest anything, it'd be this, on that part where the volume swellsat 2:00- 2:03, it does get kind of , too loud.

I really dig the breakdown just after the swell, the bass and that reverb on the drums are awsome.

Loud in places. Like...a bass player did the mix. YOU mixed that session, didn't you?

Haha.. No, but we had a mix earlier where the bass was really quiet, so I think I get the next few. It also might be ready for a flat EQ, and I know most people/programs like the dip, which would give me a little boost.
