Baroness - The Red Album

I just discovered this band a few weeks ago, and I'm thoroughly impressed. They're sick! Anyone else hip to this band?

You can hear them here.

As far as their sound...If you need a genre...I guess they'd be considered progressive-atmospheric-hardcore-type-stuff. They're somewhere in between Cave In, Isis and a slightly tamer version of Mastodon. Epic songs, heavy and melodic, great playing on all parts. The Red Album is one of the first real "cohesive albums" I've heard in a while. You can tell it was written as an album the way the songs relate to each other. Check them out.

These guys are monstrous, great sound. I wouldn't call them any sort of hardcore, though...funnily enough I know a lot of hardcore kids who adore them.

I also really like this band/album. A friend of mine showed them to me a month or so back, and I have been listening to them ever since.

The Red Album is decent, but I don't think it lives up to the first 2 EP's and split with Unpersons. It seems like they've gone in a more Torche/Floor-ish direction. I love those bands, but for some reason it's not clicking with me right now. That'll probably change after a few more listens though.

Baroness are such a killer band. I thought the album didn't liveup to the two eps first of all. Much less crust and more progressive melody going on. Now, I find the album more involving and hooky than the two eps. Summer's bass sound is divine throughout. The bluebeard seem a little more tucked into the mix overall but it's still a devastating sound. Isak totally does it for me. Spent the last few hours jamming out to the main riff!
