Bass Guitar/Vocal Duets?

Sign in to disble this ad
Are there any professionally (or just well) done jazz tunes with just bass and vocals?

I know of Fever (great tune) but are there any others?

I guess they would probably be single tracks on different albums but I need your help to find them.

Thanks!

Joe.

In Italy we have a somewhat famous double bass / female voice called "Musica nuda" (that translates to "naked music").

Some of their songs are rearranged jazz standards that might be worth checking!

This is a well known italian jazz tune rearranged in their style:

(By the way, this is the original version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04QkwmMW8-o)

Oh my God!

That was absolutely fantastic!

It's not quite what I'm looking for but it was fantastic!

I play bass guitar as opposed to double bass but maybe I can figure something out to make it work for me.

Both versions are great but Musica nuda had me on the edge of my seat!

Thanks again!

Joe.

EDIT: BTW, I just downloaded the Musica Nuda album Live A Fip. It is fantastic! Lots of great material!

Another one that I know of is also Double Bass, but on Kurt Elling's Nightmoves album there is the track called "The Waking".

I remember an upright bass/vocalist duo called "The Pair" who made four records (vinyl LP records) for the Liberty label between 1965-67. They used to pop up a bit on TV back in the 60's as well.

It's been many years since I heard them & the records are kind of hard to find. If I remember correctly (and believe me,my memory can be faulty!) not everything they did worked but when it did it was amazing! I remember a cool version of "Donna Lee" & I think they did a version of the Beatles' "Run For Your Life".

I don't think their stuff has been re-issued,but I could be wrong. There are some European & Japanese labels who reissue obscure American stuff.I work partime in a used CD/record shop & I hardly ever see their LP's.

"Moon Over Bourbon Street" by Sting is very much a bass and vocals duet, even though there is a saxophone in the recording. You could definitely do it as an electric bass and vocal. Upright bass on the recording, but it's, IMO, a great example.

You could also do very similar thing with "Sister Moon" which works well as bass/vocal duet.

Be creative about it- there's many songs out there that can be done that way.
