Bass not 'bassy' enough, so bring in the 'sub bass' on Chinese Democracy

Axl's quest to make everything louder than everything else seems to have necessitated the bass being 'augmented' by some guy on a keyboard playing 'sub bass'... geez, couldn't Tommy Stinson or whoever have been given an octaver?

I know studio tricks happen all the time, but sheesh... this is supposed to be rock n roll...

Funnily enough, Bob Ludwig disagrees:

In the album credits, a guy (i forget his name) is credited as being responsible for 'sub bass'... the same guy is credited with programming... so, I take it that this means, come anthemic chorus time in the mixing session, Axl has demanded there be more bass... and programming guy has banged away at a keyboard to generate additional subsonic frequencies, because Tommy Stinson playing regular bass guitar has not brought enough booty.

That is what I heard when a friend blasted the album at me on his mega home system... a very big bass sound, mainly during the choruses... I thought ''wow, nice depth''... so I read the album cover notes and thought ''it's just a guy on keys''... a little disappointing

Phew.

I don't get it, you thought it sounded good. Why were you disappointed?

I thought it was a little funny that someone was credited separately with sub-bass when all it probably amounts to is pressing down a key every once in a while. Couldn't that just be rolled into keyboards or something? Why can't I get a paycheck for this! Whatever, it fits with the epicness of the album.

I agree, our war with synth players will never end.
