Victor Wooten breaks a string and goes on like nothing!

He is so cool!

Took him a few seconds to figure out where he was going to go once the string broke, but after that he went back to doing what he does best.

Yup. Clickety click. His huge solo with the DMB live was great though, and he really can groove. I just thinking double thumping gets tired quickly.

Graeme

P.S. And just for the record, I don't think I could play even a bit of that solo.

Hey Matt - I kind of agree but have you actually seen him live? I suggest you do - the Flecktones are a brilliant, brilliant live act- and Vic truly plays his role withn it -yet they all shine, and to be fair to Vic - he invented his crazy intense slap routine - the level of rhythmic varition and ideas is amazing. The fact he breaks a string seems to inspire him even more.

I also like the fact that Vic - in this solo - just loses himself in the moment and let's the vibe take him - the crowd are still hanging on every note until the end - and just like many of the live solos I've seen and heard him do it all ends on something of an emotional high - the technque gets lost in the sheer energy and emotion he throws into it - he's a hyper-self aware person and he knows exactly what he's doing - and I very much doubt anyone else can do what he does in the way that he does it - IMO - blah blah blah - I'll shut it now!

Yep, I did see them live, great act. He kept is double thump solos at about 2 minutes, but he did have a spot where he jammed with a looper, which I really liked. I prefer what he can do in the context of a song... I prefer that of all musicians. But 8 minutes of double thumping? You don't think that's overkill? Regardless of how many strings he has.

But I can back the breaking of a string being inspiring. I've broken strings and had to use the other 3 for a while because I don't have money for strings sometimes. I've come up with some of my favorite basslines that way.

Yeah - I agree 8 mins is too much here - glad you've seen them live though, really great band.
