Edit: It's also a "true" solo bass recording (i.e. not a bass-player-who-leads-a-band record), if that matters. It's recorded live, without overdubs, and the only instrument used is an acoustic bass guitar.

Jaco (of course)
Victor Wooten
Victor Bailey
Steve Bailey
Reggie Washington
Oteil Burbridge (one of my favs)
Marcus Miller
Tal Wilkenfeld
Ray Brown
John Patitucci
Jeff Berlin
Esperanza Spalding
Rocco Prestia
.....
I'll be honest though, I don't often find myself listening to those types of albums for fun. No doubt guys like Victor Wooten are talented but I just can't listen to more than a couple songs before I need something else. Some bassist who take more of a leader approach but don't necessarily make a bass-only album are Jaco, Ray Brown, Oteil, Tal, Esperanza, Charles Mingus (big one!), John Patitucci.... etc.
I'd rather listen to bassists who make their band sound good.
What exactly are you looking for??

| | | | Mick Karn - Bestial Cluster. He is real bad ass fretless player. There are other instruments happening - keys, drums etc. . . all the main melodies are led by the bass |
