BASS USED ON BU2B BY RUSH

Hi All,

Lately I have my doubts that Geddy used any of his J basses on the studio version of BU2B. The bass in that song sounds so much more subdued than the rest of the album. I had read somewhere that he had tried out a few Stingrays in the past few years but he did not really care for them (this info was via his bass tech I believe). However, could it be that this is what he used to record that song? It sure does sound somewhat like a Ray, at least to my ears.

Thoughts?

BU2B and Caravan were recorded as singles more than a year before the rest of the Clockwork Angels album, and then subsequently remastered for the album.

I'm listening to the single version now and it sounds very much like his Jazz to my ear.

Given the level of inspection Geddy's every move makes these days combined with the power of social media, I think we'd have heard something about him playing a non-Fender bass on any recording or live show.

My call is the #1 Jazz.

From the August, 2012 issue of BP with Geddy on the cover:
Q: What basses did you use on the album, and how did you record them?
A: I played four Jazz Basses. On most of the tracks I used my main black '72. On "Seven Cities" and "Carnies" I used my sunburst '72, which has a new Fender Custom Shop maple neck. I used my red Fender Custom Shop J-Bass on "Wreckers" and "The Garden"; it has a beautiful, round bottom and a cleaner top end, so I play that on the songs that need a bit more depth and aren't quite so slamming. And I used one other J-Bass on "Wish Them Well," that I can't recall.
