I used to go in a club in Printer's Alley in Nashville where she used to work. I saw a really good lefty bass player with a blues band there and noticed later that he was playing with her on some live concert video. He's obviously not the guy in the video for this song. |

| | | | Yeah, she can sing her *** off. I live about 50 miles or so where she grew up. She used to come up and sing a few songs with us when we played Big Al's, back in the day. And a real good friend and co-worker used to date her Mom, too. The stuff she talks about her being a country girl...trust me SHE IS. |

He's obviously not the guy in the video for this song. | That's Michael Deering-he's one of my old students at Belmont and a great player. I found out he's using a custom lefty Skjold bass on his new Road gig-some Country act-I'll try to find out who. www.allmusic.com does a pretty good job of listing studio credits-that might be a good place to go. |

I saw it about a couple of years ago at my friend's house where he had it saved on his dvr and we watched it through a pretty impressive stereo and a big screen. I though I was there!
Honestly, that is the best version of that song I've ever heard and I wish I could get my hands on a good audio version or even dvd quality one so I can play it on the TV when I want to.
I had no idea who Gretchen Wilson was until I saw that.
I'll never forget her name now. And not for a country song!
I bet she does a fine job singing country. If she's half as good at country as she is with Baracuda, then she must be just about the best.
Very impressive, effortless, clean and powerful voice.
Nice body too!!
AIC backing them did a stellar job. And Nancy Wilson from Heart is still looking great!
Easily, one of my favorite youtube vids.

| Yeah, too bad that band's being wasted on metal.
Let's hear some props for Nancy Wilson up there on guitar too! She's 55 now and had to be over 50 when that was shot. She still rocks out and looks great!

nashville is full of idiots and wussies. there are two types of musicians in nashville...road musicians and studio musicians... and don't ever let them cross-pollinate! god forbid that a road musician EVER be allowed to record on an album. he might waste 5 minutes doing something that doesn't work. of course, the price you pay for that is everything that comes out of nashville sounds just like everything else, but at least all their projects come in under budget, and isn't that the most important thing? being under budget is way more important than the artist being able to have a little individuality in their sound.
i recently read a story in bass player that infuriated me. in an interview with rascal flatts' bassist, who is the leader of rascal flatts, at first he was not allowed to play on their first album and actually had to offer to reimburse the label for the studio time if he cut the bass tracks and they didn't work. and guess what? he did just fine, nobody died, and their albums are still as big hits with him playing bass as they would have been if michael rhoades or david hungate had cut the tracks.
and then these total morons who run the nashville record companies whine and cry that nobody's buying their albums and they're all in such a slump and it's because of the internet. no, it's because nashville puts out absolute dreck for popular country music. and a major part of that is because they hire studio guys who are conditioned never to take chances, never do anything that might need to be retaken, and never do anything that would show any personality whatsoever. and if you are a road musician, you are lower than dirt, you're assumed to be someone who will just screw everything up in the studio, and you have to beg and bribe the idiots in charge to be allowed to play ON YOUR OWN GODDAMN ALBUMS!!! the bean counters are in charge of nashville now, and because of it, pretty much everything coming out in country music these days is soulless and sounds like pale imitations of 70's classic rock.
jerkoffs leading those willing to be jerked. that's what nashville is.

I am a rock & roller first, but I don't mind listening to some OLD country music with my wife. But when I hear this "new" country I would like to beat my head off the nearest wall. God forbid one of those SOBs tries to cover an old rock tune. It gets butchered soooooo bad I want to peal my ears off with my own bare hands. The other day I heard one of these country acts cover an old Lenard Skinard tune. I've never been a Skinard fan but I actually almost felt sorry for them that there song was hacked so bad.

Of course I may be biased since I don't like country to begin with, but....I doubt I'm very far off the mark here....lol.
