...not sure.
I liked the tune as a kid...when I heard the tune years later, I was like, "Damn, that's a busy bass part".

The bass player on Backfield in Motion is Steve Murray, and he lives in St. Louis, MO.

I met him last night. He was playing with the band "Swirl", an R&B band based in St. Louis. My brother is the lead guitarist in that band.

Not much info out there on Steve, but I did find this: Starting All Over Again by Mel & Tim Songfacts

He is still a great bassist, by the way. I enjoyed talking to him after the gig. If you listen closely to the bassline in Backfield, you'll hear some Jamerson. I asked him about Jamerson's influence on his playing style and his eyes lit up - he admitted he was definitely into Jamerson.
