Bassists over 40 - what new music are you digging?

Sign in to disble this ad
Just curious - folks I work with are always amused that I try to "keep up" - - So what are *you* listening to that's newer?

For me... Let's see: The Decemberists, Radiohead (not that new, but new for me!), Amy Winehouse (getting tired of it already, tho)...

And Green Day - - The first Green Day album I bought was "American Idiot" - and I bought it in a PX in Balad, Iraq of all places - - which is extra fun given how anti-Bush / anti-war the album is.... I *love* irony!

How about you other old dudes??

I tend to switch off between plugging in my ipod on the way to work,....jazz,..funk,..bass heroes, etc,...and tuning in the local college station,....I rarely know what group I'm listening to on it,..but fresh sounds are always enjoyable,...well,...not ALWAYS,...but you get the idea......

"New" music for me that I've been listening to for the past couple of years:

Jamiroquai and Beck.

EDIT: Also, The Soul Of John Black.

This is what pandora.com is for. Plug in a band you like and let it play you related stuff that you have never heard - skip the stuff that you don't like or already know.

I see, and sorry - I hadn't intended that to be snarky. I don't quite qualify as over 40 (I'm 36) but lately I've been digging stuff from:

The Heavy
Kings of Leon
Death Cab
Elbow
The Raconteurs
Pinback
Cursive
The Wrens

Hope that helps.

I still go back to them often... just today in my eclectic mix was Plant solo stuff (I still love Robbie Blunt's playing), a bunch of Rush and I think I put 'Pronounced' from Skynyrd in it too

Agreed. I also listen to itunes at work, since I work at a college there is always lots of new music on the shared playlists. I've enjoyed Interpol a lot lately.
