Beatle Fans. Eight Days a Week

Sign in to disble this ad
I just recently started to dig in to the Beatles catalog and I started with Eight Days a Week.

Paul's Bass line is odd.... I think......With the opening chord being C, Paul plays on the D chord using a B as a sixth. Then He uses A and G# ovet the D7.

Does anybody know this song and is this right. I know paul is playing D, B, A, F#, E, G#, B, D, G, B, D, B and so on. In a walking pattern.

All the chord charts I have seen on this song show the chords being C, D7, F, C for the verses.

Either paul is not playing the roots or I'm way off.

Anyone?

As far as I can recall right now (will check later), the song is in the key of D and the chord progression for the verses is D - E7 - G - D.

Makes sense if I'm right.

It looks like the bass line you transcribed is one step higher than the chords you are listing. The bass line looks like arpeggios outlining these chords:

D6 E7 G D

I'm at a gig right now so I can't check the recording, but I suspect the chord chart you're looking at is a step lower than the actual song.

The chord charts you have seen are transposed one whole step below the original key. That's why the walking line (which is absolutely right) doesn't match the chords.

Absolutely Right. I just checked a third one. I should have realized that.
Thanks.

Rather than this..D, B, A, F#, E, G#, B, D, G, B, D, B

try this .. D, B, A, F#, E, G#, B, C#, G, B, D, B

or this..D, B, A, F#, E, G#, B, G#, G, B, D, B
I may be wrong but ??

Caveat: It does have its share of typos.

With the possible exception of the very first progression, this

D-B-A-F#, E-G#-B-G#, G-B-D-B...rather than this

D-B-A-F#, E-G#-B-D, ..G-B-D-B

is what I've always thought Paul played.

I must admit, however, that I don't think

E-G#-B-D (rather than E-G#-B-G#) or, for that matter,

G-B-D-E (rather than G-B-D-B) change the feel of the bass line or the song.

I can make it real easy for you.Which ever way Paul is playing it, thats is and it's the right way and should be the only way you should play it.

For allot of us Paul is "Royalty"
