I subdivide the opening distorted riff 1-2-3/1-2/1-2-3-4 making it 9/8 right?

I checked it out, the main riff is in 9/8. It seems to switch between 9/8 and 4/4 a bit, but then it loses me. With all that "whatchoo cryin' about..... giiiiiiiiiiiiiiirrrll." I don't know, Zappa can be a bit of math homework from time to time.

I'd love to be in a crazy spacey rock band and cover "I'm a beautiful guy." That's one of my dream covers.

Thanks for your replies guys!

I have tried to learn a couple of the easier Zappa songs, but this one really messes with my head. I’m listening to how flawlessly the band performs this from the Halloween 81 show.
One thing that's for sure I would probably never pass a Zappa audition.

Ha, I'm on the same page. I've often thought being a Mother of Invention would be my dream gig (those were my favorite Zappa days), but then I realistically look at it: There's no way I could cut it.

Then you should watch the opening five minutes of the film Baby Snakes...

Seriously.

I've been meaning to check out baby snakes, I'm still pretty obsessed with 200 motels.

You must check out the Baby Snakes DVD. It痴 the best Zappa DVD so far even with the clay animation stuff. The versions of Black Page and Black Napkins are absolutely amazing!
