Benjamin Stange: Alone, & Burnt Infant: Spam

I posted this a while ago, and it was taken down due to a perceived conflict with TOS. I have since hashed it out with John Turner, and now post this with his approval:

I have started my own record label, Analyzer Records, and have released two albums so far. These are available for sale through my website, and I would appreciate your support.

Benjamin Strange: Alone

This is my first solo acoustic record. Previously, I've lived in odd time signatures, layer upon layer of electronic effects, and rather dissonant structures. This time I thought I'd try my hand at writing and performing songs with just voice and guitar. Much of the songs still manage to sound ambient and dissonant, even though I used no effects at all on either voice or guitar (with the exception of normal stuff, like EQ, compression, and reverb). Many of these songs are very personal in nature, and I strove to record single takes and left them sounding as raw as possible. I recorded this album with my Alvarez 9-string acoustic and my friend's 1940s era Gibson L-50.

Burnt Infant: Spam

Burnt Infant is my microtonal ambient project. I modify guitars for microtonal and exotic scales, allowing for notes-between-notes to be played. The idea is to somehow make music without notes, melody, or rhythm - an idea that isn't really new, but still begs to be explored. This album features my Hello Kitty Stratocaster, which I've modified to be half fretless, and half quarter-tones. I plugged the guitar directly into the computer an improvised each piece. As one friend so eloquently stated, this the sound a whale sticking it's [expletive] in a toaster at 10,394 feet.

Samples of each can be heard on their respective websites or Myspace:

benjaminstrange.net
myspace.com/benjaminstrange
burntinfant.com
myspace.com/burntinfant

There is a store page on each site. Prices are $10 each, shipped. Alaska, Hawaii, and international orders add $5 (I will combine shipping if you buy both). Payments are processed through Paypal.

I'd really appreciate the support of my TB bretheren. I make my entire living playing music - a life that is neither opulent nor glamorous. Every little bit helps.

Also, some of you posted reviews in the previous thread which was deleted. If you'd be so kind as to sound off in this new thread, I'd be deeply humbled.

Just listened to all your stuff on myspace (almost, I have 2 songs left)

This is really good stuff.

I'll buy your CDs when I stop being broke, pinky promise.

Bump for rent money.

Interesting note: I was just told today by a booking agent in San Francisco that my sound was too "out there" for a solo acoustic artist to be booked in even the most "out there" clubs in San Francisco. Ummm.... huh?
