Bernard Edwards grooved like no one I have ever heard. He could be busy when he wanted to, but I no of no one else who could play so simply yet still be melodic.

When Chic was at its height, the Brothers Johnson were often held up as the ultimate r&b bass and guitar duo, at least among listeners (not musicians, IMO.) To me, however, Chic could play them under the table!

For all you Louis Johnson fans, remember I said I like Bernard Edwards better, but there is no way rational way that I can deny that LJ was and is a bad, bad man.

I can see it. I know Tony Thompson could definitely have hung tight with John Bonham!

I recently did a gig with Bill H. (sax player for Chic and many others) I told him that and he said he would tell Nile. He thought Nile would like it

That's cool! I hope it lifts Nile's spirits since I hear he is fighting cancer.

Oh man, I didn't know that. That's so terrible. Doesn't it seem like there's just so much cancer everywhere?

I know, I'm a ten year cancer survivor myself.

I would agree...because to me, the bass chair is a wash, it's the guitarist that makes Chic > Bros. Johnson. Both Bernard & Louis are/were smokin' bassists who grooved like nobody's bidness. But man, when Nile Rogers gets in the pocket, there are damn few guitarists who can match his sense of groove.

You make a great point about Nile Rogers being the tie breaker between the Brothers Johnson and Chic. Here is some more primo Bernard from the C'est Chic album:CHIC - HAPPY MAN - YouTube
