All of a sudden i just really want to listen to groovin' basslines. just post a song with an awesome groove. Genre doesn't matter, funk, rock, jazz, fusion, polka whatever, so long as it is irresistibly head-bobable. Extra points for links! GO!
I'll start out with one just because I listened to it like 8 times on the way to work and yes, i know it's a uses a synth bass. It's still bass and it still grooves!
Fly Away - Izawa Asami

Incubus.
These aren't my favourite bands, but they are the bands that make your head bob.

Fly Away - Izawa Asami | A few straight off the top of my head (in no particular order of grooviness)
'Cholly'....Funkadelic (Bootsy / Jazz )
'Hit me with you rhythm stick'....Ian Dury and the Blockheads (Norm Watt-Roy / jazz)
'Everybody Dance'...Chic (Bernard Edwards / Stingray)
'High on you'..... Sly and the Family Stone (Bobby Vega / Jazz with pick)
Kid Charlemagne... Steely Dan (Chuck Rainey / Precision)
Anything by James Jamerson
'Only so much Oil in the ground'...TOP (Rocco Prestia / Precision)
'Used to be a Cha Cha'...Jaco Pastorius (self titled album / jazz)
If I had to choose the best IMO....I'd go with Jaco. 'Used to be a Cha Cha' is, in my estimation, the most relentless bass groove ever recorded.
Second would be 'High on you' which is just so damn funky...and to think it was played by a teenaged Bobby Vega!!!! WOW |

These aren't super aggressive grooves. There's a lot of open space to mess around over. Its fun to imagine what could be done with the bass line.

Song - Artist - Album
Barbary Coast - Weather Report - Black Market
Come On, Come Over - Jaco Pastorius - Jaco Pastorius
Ocus Pocus (second part) - Jaco Pastorius - Jaco Pastorius
(Used To Be A) Cha-Cha - Jaco Pastorius - Jaco Pastorius
Kuru/Speak Like A Child - Jaco Pastorius - Jaco Pastorius
Quite the bass player.
