Just get the whole '..And out come the wolves' album by Rancid, Matt freeman has some tasty lines.
Nofx also have some good lines, check out 'The decline' 18 minutes! has a few pretty nice lines in aswell.

| | | | Bruce's UK Total Bass Guitar magazine(or whatever it's called) did a "50 Best Basslines of Punk" a couple years back...this issue did turn me onto Ian Drury & The Blockheads(one tune mentioned sounded Jaco-esque) & Japan(Karn's krazy angular fretless lines)-
Great grooves, though, I didn't really hear either as "Punk".

| | Unprofessional TalkBass Contributor | | Join Date: Dec 1999 Location: Brighton, England, UK, Europe | | Ian Drury & The Blockheads were around at the same time as punk in the UK and their gigs were attended by the punk audience - I think Ian Dury himself, was adopted as an honorary punk, for his no-nonsense lyrics, with very English working-class sensibility and a lot of swearing!! 
But his band were seasoned session pros who could play anything from Gene Vincent style rock and roll to Jaco-style funky R& B !
I remember going to a one of their gigs which was full of punks and you could see that Ian Dury was a bit worried, so he called mostly slower songs - but as soon as they played "Sweet Gene Vincent" , the punks started pogoing and pulled the house down!! Literally!! The stage started moving backwards and eventually the whole thing collapsed !

I've read Passion is a Fashion, ans according to everyone in that book, by the time The Clash started branching out into incorporating reggae, ska, etc. Paul was a good bassist. And of course, he basically learned to play bass by playing along to reggae records. |
