Best Bass-y Albums/Songs of 2010

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Guys,

The year is winding down and my friends and I usually each put together a compilation of the best songs of 2010.

I am a huge bass head and I have some in mind from the past year, but I am looking for suggestions. So, name the song, artist, and genre. You can name whole albums too.

I have gotten the best musical recommendations off of talkbass in the past and I have no doubt that ya'll have some killer recommendations from the past year (Nov. 09 - Present)

Thanks in advance!

Esperanza Spalding - Chamber Music society (jazz)

new stuff is hard for me to think of, i mostly listen to alot of older music when it comes to bass.

I mostly listen to older stuff too which is why this is a challenge for me.

BTW, Winter Sun from that album is already tabbed to go on it. Great record all around.

I would look at the acid jazz genre. There is always great bass lines to be found. Check out a band from CD baby called VOID and the Phibes. Also check out Jamiroquai's new album "Rock Dust Light Star" their bassist Paul Turner really hauls on this album. He plays in the pocket and finds candy. Infact Paul Turner is thier 1st bassist to really compare against Stuart Zender. Enjoy.

I have. Yes, it's very slick -- as to be expected. And I have nothing against the kid. Every pre teen generation needs an idol and he's obviously marketable.

But...

Come on!

It's pure pablum. The songs sound like they were written in 5 minutes. It's all production. And the bass is nothing at all special. In fact, that song sounds like synth bass playing roots.

If you like the kid or even have some sort of obsession with him, you're entitled. But enough is enough.

Bieber's OK, just overrated because of the hype. He's prime for a good remix:

On a more serious note: the bassist for STP sounds great in this clip:

i saw him do f-you on jools holland show. the backing band were all ladies but the music was different and NO original bass line, not even close to being good. im guessing the all girl band was only a gimmick.
