Exit Stage Left and Snakes and Arrows Live.

If you really want to hear Geddy get Rush in Rio, but the two listed above are a must!

Snakes and Arrows, followed by R-30. Rush in Rio suffers in the sound department.

Get the Replay X3

Exit...Stage Left, Grace Under Pressure, and A Show of Hands bundled.

Plus you don't have to worry about some of the performances being a little disappointing due to age!

I don't think Rio suffers in the sound department... it really sounds like you are in the middle of the arena, and not like a studio album. Sure it is not as "hi-fi", but I believe it gives a better feel for the show.

I hate when I buy a DVD in it sounds super-hi-fi-just-like-the-cd.

Interesting... I thought the sound on Rush in Rio was pretty good. For Geddy's tone in particular, possibly the best ever.

But different strokes, I guess.

For me , I think different stages live was the most ballzy and funky tone He ever had, with Rio being the compleate opposite.
To bad theres no different stages DVD.

So your 100% right about the 'different strokes' comment.

When I hear a live show, on DVD, I want it to have studio quality sound. We have the technology, lets use it. Live shows never sound polished, like a studio recording, anyway.

Dude, If you have Direct TV, there are a couple channels that show a RUSH concert like every other day. It's the Snakes and Arrows tour. I don't know if it's shown on other systems.

This was exactly what I thought when I read the title.

I have to disagree, Geddy's tone in Rio was amazing! Even though it was accidental, I can't help but enjoy the sheer twang of his bass.

If I were going for the quality of sound, I'd pick Snakes and Arrows hands down. For energy level, I'd pick Rush In Rio. Then in order of preference after that, R-30...then all the rest. To me, Snakes and Arrows is really awesome in the sound department. You can hear every note played. Rio is great due to the crowd energy, but you lose some of the sound due to that.

FYI, if you haven't checked this unofficial Rush concert video release, check it out. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the official DVDs, but it's a terrific show anyway:

http://www.digitalrushexperience.com...cordingID=1098

And answering the question, Replay X3 is a terrific package. R-30 and Rio are also great for different reasons: While R-30 is more "polished", the crowd makes a big difference on the Rio DVD (and I like "O Baterista" better than "Der Trommler"). Snakes And Arrows Live is also great. In other words, do what I did: GET 'EM ALL.

if you can only get one - Replay, Replay, Replay. Captures the band at their peak and all 3 shows sound great.
