| | | I agree with one of the last postings. I have no idea why people who are into tapping don't check out the main man . ADRIAN DAVISON ...This guy recorded stuff over 20 years ago and he still runs circles around Michael Manring and Stu Hamm and all the new guys on the block. Get over all this rook tapping stuff, and check out the man. http://www.adriandavison.com and some of his music samples including http://www.adriandavison.com/soundpage.html |

When it comes to tapping there is no one but ADRIAN DAVISON. Never mind twenty years ago like the other posts, fifty years from now, we will still be scratching our heads!

Oh, wait, you were serious. Oh. And the guy after you. Oh, oh my.
This was a thread about acoustic guitars anyway, but Manring is without peer in many areas of bass, and/or music. |

| | | What I find difficult in finding a good chat room for music and Bass playing, is that the level of ignorance is so great. I would like to participate in a dialogue with people that would like to elevate their individual playing ability, and furthermore enjoy the art. When someone has their head up their behind so far as to not hear anything people are saying, makes the whole process defeating. What moron would state that the most amazing tapping Bass player of all time is from a teased out metal era....,obviously someone who is ignorant and has never heard the player before. When it comes to tapping, acoustic or otherwise, there is only one player. Adrian Davison. http://www.adriandavison.com/soundpage.html
I would suggest spending more time listening and playing, because typing on a keyboard and writing BS, is a waste of everyone's time. |

I'm honestly not impressed, and his tone was bad. This is all IMO, but I have been playing a long time, and have waded through a lot of music to come to my conclusions. The way I see it is that I can play most Adrian Davidson's stuff. I CAN'T play most of Manring's stuff. Adrian's music was boring and predictable to me. He plays a lot of scales. It's like a guitarist who plays arpeggio after arpeggio. Anybody can do that if you practice enough. Keep me interested and keep me guessing, and you have accomplished something that can't be practiced. |

| | | I find that interesting that you would say that, considering the fact that all is done without overdubs, and who is as melodic as that when it comes to tapping. The command over complete hand independance is something that all the others have like Hamm; Manring etc. don't have.........they sound like they are playing grade 5 piano pieces. Anyway, I was at a NAMM show in Chicago many years back, and had a chance to watch Manring and others play while hanging out at the different booths, and somebody asked Manring about the state of Bass Playing, and he was the one that refered me onto A. Davison. I can't remember what he said exactly, but he was extremely impressed , and overwhelmed by Davison's approach. Bassically he stated that the guy was light years beyond anything that was current. ( this was 1990 ). So, funny enough it was Manring and a player named Randy Coven that initially brought Davison to my attention. I'm pretty sure they have many players have been influenced by him in some way. Don't forget, Davison ended his recording career over 15 years ago,....... pretty amazing when you think of it......., how advanced he was and how well respected he was of his peers. There is a great article in Rolling Stone magazine on Davison circa 1992 ( I believe) ..Enough said. Ciao |

As Lars Lehmann points out in a great article in " Bass Professor Magazine", this guy is the king of the domain. Anybody who states that he can play any of Davison's stuff is full of ****. Maybe with 3 or 4 overdubbing tracks, but not at once. The guy is the Stanley Jordan of Bass.

But i will point out that the technique Adrian used in his playing resulted in him ending up w/ such dibilitating hand problems that he retired quickly. So caveat empor | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
