Better sound from mics versus DI

Fellow TBers, just got out of Studio West and the engineer there did an insane job recording my bass. Just wanted to pass along the formula to those who really want to mic their cabs versus DI.

My gear:
1993 Warwick Proline with 18v Bartolini preamp and pickups
Mesa Boogie Fathom (m6 Carbine)
Bergantino NV610

Studio gear:
U 47 fet microphone
sub kick (bass drum) mic
REDDI DI (pre effects board)
Avalon U5 (post effects board)

After A/Bing the signals, the engineer, band and most importantly, myself, found the Mic'd signal slightly warmer and more true to my sound than the DI signals. The Avalon sounds awesome, don't get me wrong, but the U 47 fet with a bit of the sub kick really sounded superb. Once we get the final mix and master of our EP, I will be able to share. Cheers!
