hey everyone,
my band Rhinosaurus released a demo recently, give it a listen! We're a sort of crazy mix of jazz and rock, but not in a fusiony way. I'm playing my double bass on the second 2 tracks, but the first one is my trusty Danelectro short scale bass.
regarding the title, a certain famous jazz musician saw a poster of mine for one of our shows, and said that we were the 'epicentre of the death of jazz.' I thought that was pretty funny http://www.myspace.com/rhinosaurusmusic
enjoy!

Is the "Pilot" on Yorkville still happening for groups like yours? If you're into "Steely Dan" at all, check out "Pretzel Logic" @ the Orbit Room ( "Humber" guys). Saw Mark Kelso sitting in w/ them(sub) awhile ago.

for you Toronto cats, we're playing The Emmet Ray on College St. on June 23rd. It's a new place, apparently it's pretty happening. They have 40 different types of whiskey to choose from, if you're into that.

George Russell once told me "You're the perfect example of someone who does too much left-brain thinking!" I will cherish his words forever. |

I'm not usually one to put down other musicians either, but the Marsalis family didn't kill Jazz either, they just stuffed it and put it in the family museum. I've sat through too many shows trying to convince myself they are worth the hype, but nary an emotion ripples the surface of the worthily played aspic jazz they hawk.
I remember Wynton's endless proclamations and 'Elder Jazz Statesman' comments way back in the '80s, even then he struck me as a young fogey.
At least Branford swings.
That video of Jason is a shocker, a rant so self-contradictory, sticky with sour grapes, and reeking with self-importance it sounds like a parody.

Rhinosaurus V.2.0 Quintet style, if you want to check it out.
Also, check out the new bandcamp page! http://rhinosaurus.bandcamp.com

Ever heard him play the swampy, jazz-funk of saxophonist John Ellis? Or the Latin jazz of the old Los Hombres Calientes? Not a bad vibraphonist, either.
And Branford does more than swing. His bands always kill, IMO. |

similar to polar bear / das vibenbass type of stuff, wich i love, and is the most alive jazz around. |

I suppose the way I write is more grounded in what I've learned from playing jazz, but yeah, that's very interesting!
haha didn't mean to open up the can of Marsalis worms, but I suppose i should have known it would happen...
