Big Business - Here come the water works

Good lord, why haven't we all discussed this album yet? I'd go as far as to say this one isn't just bass and drum (and vocal) since there are overdubs of guitar/keys on every track... but damn, I honestly think this is one of the best pure rock albums I have ever heard. It's intense, but not pushed into the metal realm so much. I honestly think this destroys "Shallow" and that is saying something.

Listen to "Grounds for Divorce" all the way through... that just plain ****ing rocks. Plus, how can you deny promo photos like this:

+666!!! pure rock is right!

Big Business are the most relentless rockers i've heard. not only that, the songs are well-crafted and the basslines and bass tones kick SERIOUS A$$.

as Mr. Till said, you can't deny the song "Grounds for Divorce."

if you like to rock, do yourself a favor and get into Big Business!

the band is a duo... but they've got lots of hired guitar help on the album, which definitely helps with the fullness. plus, that bass sound is just so HUGE.

i don't know how they do it live, but i'm eager to see them as soon as i can. i hear they put on a killer show!

indeed! and their bassist is the bassist for Melvins now.

they got together and made an album called (a) Senile Animal (which also rocks). right now, Melvins are on tour in Europe... and it's comprised of all four of them.

i thought that's who it was. senile animal is just killer,i'd venture to say it's up there with lysol and stoner witch.
not to get off topic- but the big business i've heard has been great as well. i'll have to pick it up.

i'd definitely put Waterworks up there with the best (or, my favorite) Melvins albums (Houdini, Stonerwitch, Stag, Bullhead, Senile Animal).

There really isn't a weak track on the album. It's much more diverse than Head for the Shallow. It's a shame Waterworks has to be so good because I don't listen to Shallow that much anymore (I feel that album had a bit of filler)

As discussed: Anyone know what they are doing live? There are a lot more overdubs than their use to be. The bass still sounds huge, but a lot of the songs are dependant upon multiple tracks. As a studio album though, it's one of the best modern rock albums I've ever heard.

i'm curious about their live show, as well... i'll report back as soon as they play a show nearby!

my guess is big amps, an octaver, a fuzz, and (probably) a guitarist.

When I saw them open for High on Fire (promoting Shallow) it was just bass and drum (it was less overdubby), but Jared's bass rig was 2 Sunn amps/Cabs (not sure what kind) and a guitar combo (a cheap crate amp), varying levels of distortion on everything, sounded just like his studio sound.

It was awesome, they were the loudest band that night... and no guitars.
