Hell, P-Funk issues forth a mind-boggling amount of conglomerations by itself. And you can start with a lot of soul stuff and work your way into funk (the Donny Hathaway live album is funky as hell, thanks to Willie Weeks and the rest).
Look up a bunch of compilations of old 45s available on CD, too. A lot of regions had their own flavors of funk (Midwestern, New Orleans, etc.) that all drew from the One, but did it their own way. |
