I love Niacin, Billy plays his ass off without too much Wankery. Even when slapping it still has Billy's trademark sound.

Reminds me of the old days of Brian Auger's Express, but taken to another level.

Dennis Chamber's aint bad either

There's a youtube clip of the Steve Vai Band playing "Blue Powder" and Sheehan slaps a few fills in the middle section, I think Stu Hamm does these fills on the original recording. That was the first time I heard Sheehan slapping...great.
For some reason I never could imagine him doing that slapp stuff.

I love that video of Sheehan where he's demonstrating his neck-bending trick. Makes me cringe every time, haha.

I'd love to hear him with a more conventional bass sound as opposed to his usual overdriven signature.

Billy actually grew up a few blocks down from my cousin's house (supposedly). It's about a 10 minute drive from where I'm at. I know he was born in Buffalo, NY, so it'd make sense. But this is just what I've heard, and thought it was interesting, so I figured I'd share it on TB.

And his playing is absolutely amazing!

That tracks cool ... as for Billy Sheehan slapping, i've seen him do that before (like more than 10 years ago) he's much more versitile than most people think. Its just that most people know him for his other stuff. I guess he's just riding the wave that made him more popular, which is the shredding and tapping.

Im actually more surprised here with the basslines he's laying on top of that off beat, progressive drum track. He's usually on a more straight up rock track and then he takes off with his solos ... i guess i have to dig more Niacin CDs

Wow, never even heard of Niacin... I love it!!

Dennis Chambers is great, and is a "drummer's" drummer... many of my drum friends study his stuff and really appreciate his playing.

Bonus points:

Can you identify the moving object is at the very beginning and very end of the vid?

man, you disappoint!

but your love of partying makes up for it. so it's all good

I've always quite liked sheehan... but I'm with DWBass, I'd love to hear him with a more sort of regular tone.
