Black Hearth Inertia - Incubus (Ben Kenney)

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi folks,

I was listening to this song and I found it very very pleasant to both hear and play.

Grooveshark: Black Hearth Inertia - Incubus)

Can some one lecture me on what it's rhythm structure and how would you define the bassist "approach" to the bassline? And how would you describe the tone?

I feel its very simple bassline, yet particularly engaging. Help me put some words to my hearing!

I hope I'm answering your question right here - The first thing that you should listen for is the time signature, and in this case, it is 6 / 4.

It seems that Ben is doing most of his busier/fill work on the 5 and 6. This kinda helps create that disjointed, edgy feel but it still grooves.

Is this kinda what you were looking for?

edit: also, his tone is typically P-Bass through a light distortion, sometimes getting hairier for some songs. This song sounds pretty clean to me though.
