I've been on a bit of a Steven Wilson kick the last couple of weeks for some reason (do I really need one?). I stumbled onto his Blackfield project on last.fm and have been hooked on the self-titled album for two weeks now. Especially "Hello". I can't remember the last time I heard such a beautiful song. The verse melody is heartbreaking for some reason.

Anyone else like this album?

Wait until you get ahold of the second album. I wouldn't use "better", but "more mature" fits IMO. Like Steven and Aviv got more comfortable writting together.

...but yes, certainly another fan here.

I went to a PT concert a while ago and saw the blackfield albums there and considered buying them but didn't. I wish I did because I've read good things about them.

Plus I've been on this whole Pocupine Tree trip this past week and have been listening to On the Sunday of Life and Up the Downstairs a bunch. I would buy the blackfield stuff right now but I'm just a little broke.

Hi!
Huge Porcupine Tree fan, love Blackfield too.
As mentioned, grab the second one!
And then hold on and wait for next year: when Blackfield toured the US, they taped the NY show, and a DVD release is supposed ot be coming soon. Hit the Blackfield MySpace (/blackfield) and scroll down a little on the right- DVD preview/trailer.

Porcupine Tree's DVD, "Arriving Somewhere" is awesome, and they have an EP of FOABP leftovers/extras called "Nil Recurring" coming sometime soon.

With PT and SW on the road still (second leg of the FOABP tour), I am guessing most stuff is simply on hold. SW has a thing for doing his own mixing, mastering and producing these days, often with a little help here and there. So, hopefully he will find time on breaks to get this stuff finished so it can be out already!

Also- there is a band, Abigail's Ghost, that sounds alot like PT, and then you have a bunch of other cool bands with similarities, like Riverside (from Poland), etc.

Blackfield

Their 2nd album is phenomenal. Check out "1000 People". Very poignant and emotive. Great stuff.
