Yes, I use a pick on this video. That's how Krist did it, that's how I'm gonna do it. That's what I do when I do covers. If the bassist plays pickstyle, I do. Fingerstyle, I do.

Anchor, that's cool man. And don't sound embarrassed about using a pick. Some of the best players use picks. Some don't. It's no one's business but yours bro.

And you're not a poser for learning a cover as it was written. Sometimes covers are cool to make your own, but sometimes it's awesome to hear a cover just like it was originally. If you're hell bent on playing something your own style, write a new song.

bassninja7: I suppose you came right out of the box playing bass like no one else had before you? Never learned any covers note for note to cut your teeth? Never copped (or tried to and failed miserably) another's bass tone? Come on, cut this kid some slack. Elitism is a stinky cologne.

also, i believe it is "poseur" you are thinking of, a "poser" is simply one who poses... a "poseur" is someone who tries to be something they are not, to impress others... to act as someone else has acted.

and, checked out your myspace page... cool bandana, bassninja... you guys sound really original.

haha tom araya is horrible.. but that is my opinion... there are good bass players that play with picks for sure...i don't but that's just a choice.

First off, it's poseur.

Second off, when people hear a cover, they generally want to hear it as close to the original as possible.

Third off, don't you think the damn song has enough bass in it already? Jesus.

This is why I rarely do covers. Do you think Krist had to play it album perfect at every show? I don't need some snob thinking I suck because I missed one note. Heck I probably missed a couple of notes, but that's the one he heard so that's the one I hear about.

... And poser is a pejorative of poseur. So while not entirely correct, it's not entirely wrong. Blame it on American's and their seaming abhorrence to using a "U" anywhere except after a "Q".

The pick thing doesn't bother me one bit but the fact that you go off beat a fair amount does. How long have you been playing?

I don't think I go off beat a fair amount. I just messed up a few times, and I already recorded it four or five times before, and I didn't feel like doing it again.

I listened back and you're right you didn't go off beat as often as I made it sound. Guess I was a little put off by your immediate defensive/attacking nature in the first post. Still though there was more than a few times when it was really obvious you messed up and although you came back in a little after the mistake on beat it was really off putting. It threw off the whole groove (can you really say Nirvana has a groove?) for me.

I didn't mean to sound rude, I've just gotten a lot of crap for using picks.
