Actually this bass recently went through some specific tuning of the resonant frequency contributed by each pickup. The end result has me pleased and reminds me of a high-end bass despite that I payed approx. $200 for it + $100 for noise-cancelling Stratocaster pickups(yes, those are guitar pickups).

If there's a point to be made here it's that as long as build quality is satisfactory with some knowledge about how the electronic properties of the pickups, the cable and some caps interact it doesn't matter that much if your bass cost $200 or $2000.
