I'm looking for a great blues album.
All components of the album must be solid--- the bass playing in particular. I'm looking more for "feel", pocket playing, and tone, than mind-blowing chops.
PLEASE KEEP IT TO ONE RECOMMENDATION, OR SIMPLY +1 IF ANOTHER PERSON ALREADY MENTIONED ONE YOU WERE THINKING OF.

No bass playing, but I'm recommending "booker's guitar" by Eric Bibb.

John Mayall's Bluesbreakers: "Bluesbreakers" (w/Clapton) & "A Hard Road" (w/Peter Green) - John McVie in the pocket on both.

For a bit of proto-Cream, try "The Sound of 66" and "There's a BOND Between Us" by the Graham Bond ORGANization - Bruce and Baker.

Canvey Island's finest Dr. Feelgood - "Down By The Jetty", "Malpractice" & the live "Stupidity" - John B. Sparks keeping it together while Wilko Johnson & Lee Brilleaux go mental.

The post-Wilko live lbum "As It Happens" is well worth a spin too.

The Fabulous Thunderbirds "Girls Go Wild" & "What's The Word" - the late, & very great, Keith Ferguson. What a loss that guy was.

Edging into Rock...

Johnny Winter, "Second Winter" - Tommy Shannon, 'nuff said.

Paul Rodgers' "Muddy Waters Blues" - Pino Palladino showing exactly why he keeps getting the gig.

Rory Gallagher "Live In Europe" - Gerry McAvoy ridin' shotgun.
Fear the mullet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeBg1685g2Y

A bit more than one I'm afraid... Got carried away there, oops.

Well we seem to have very similar tastes don't we?

For a bit more on that record, it's my desert island blues album. Being blues, the bass is unremarkable but Clapton guests on rhythm guitar and there is no substitute for Buddy.

I'm down!

I'm not sure if Hot Tuna is 100% blues, but Jack Cassidy is the bomb!

+1 to the Showdown! album.

*Clapton's "From the cradle" - awesome renderings of ole time blues songs + Dave Bronze on bass (very pocket-y and tight basslines) -> one of my favorites.

*Take a look at Coco Montoya. I really like his first album ("Got a mind to travel", I guess).

B.B. King's Completely Well or Otis Rush's Mourning In The Morning albums for some great Jerry Jemmott playing.

All good choices. The Robert Johnson collection is a must for delta blues roots. Muddy, Lightnin' Lil Walter -- all great.

As for bass playing -- it's not really a music that allows for the bass to stand out but Willie Dixon owns the style and it can't be played any better on electric than Tommy Shannon.

I also always liked the way Tim Bogart played the blues but it's hardly "authentic."

+1 to Robert Johnson
I'm a big blues fan so forgive me if I go over the 1 recommendation.
Muddy Waters - Folk Singer, that album is a must!
Son House - Delta Blues and Spirituals, he's just the best I reckon.
There are a whole lot, but I won't overdo it

I would also recommend Robert Cray's Strong Persuader...IMHO his best work.
