Blurry Eyes Cover

Sign in to disble this ad
a song by a Jrock band called Larc en Ciel

i had drinks after new years had had the sudden urge to dance and record myself playing bass... both happened

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3_QSqr1l90

theres mistakes, mostly because i get distracted or step on something... :P but for the quick runs i lost time to keep clarity (and vice versa further on)... need more practice

if anyone watches this, could you comment on my technique? i guess right hand mostly because you cant see the left most of the time.

the thing is, i watch others, and they seem to put so much energy into plucking... yet when i see myself, it looks kinda lazy

is that a problem?

PS sry if this is in the wrong place... didnt know where to show off and get advice at the same time

Blurry Eyes, quite a popular Laruku song.

Something doesn't sound tight enough, just my opinion.

Cool!

I can see you've got the Tetsu movement going. That's half the battle! I know that I can't dance and play most of his lines.

Here are some criticisms -

Like you mention, your timing is a little off. I usually drink a bit (read: a lot) before playing so I know what that can be like, but be sure to practice the verse leading to the chorus, and especially the small bridge bass solo. It is a little all over the place. It also is a little too stiff and robotic. Tetsu's playing flows across the fretboard. If you want, I can scan pages from the official score that a friend gave me in Japan. You will see that Tetsu does not stay in any locked position and tends to move his left hand a heck of a lot.

This is a silly criticism since I also do not play with a pick, but Blurry Eyes has a lot less of a burpy bridge sound and more of a cutting, and balanced pick tone. If you are nuts (sorry, I am out there), you should give it a shot with a pick to nail "that" tone.

Hum.. aside from that.. it was good!

i poured over the song and i think i've found all the slides and little subtleties... and i play them too, but now i see that i've got torealy make them sound out

and nice, scores! could you email to me? actually, you could even scan a different song so i can try it and also work on my reading.

and i've tried using picks. as silly as it sounds, one of the reasons i switched from guitar to bass was because i was so much more comfortable playing with my fingers. i practice it a few times a week, and the tone is definately a lot closer, but the rhythm and clarity just dissappears... :P

ty for comments!
