Without a doubt, my favorite Black Metal band. They've inspired me to work on a Black Metal side project that has yet to be named, but has a song nearing completion (I've been working on it off and on for a week... more off than on).

To me... this music is relaxing... the first time I listened to it, I fell asleep (It was while I was on tour, so I was tired too). But it's these amazing guitar textures. The 2003 release, The Work Which Transforms God, blew my mind.

I doubt it, but any other fans on board? All Black Metal fans should dig on this. And though I've said "Black Metal" several times in this thread, lets avoid the Living colour joke that pops up in ever Black Metal thread.

If anyone can tell me of some more ambientish black metal bands, let me know.

Yeah, a lot of Black Metal is like that... I guess metal drummers are hard to come by.

A lot of Black metal bands are really 1 or 2 people, and they tend not to be drummers. I think that's what got me interested, the DYI ethics.

kinda surprising, with the popularity of metal.... wait, never mind. i'm thinking of pop metal.

yeah.... i think noize music isn't really that popular, no matter what you play..... but i applaud anyone who perseveres with whatever music they make, no matter what the circumstances.

I'll look into it, Funeral Doom can be pretty trippy/cool when done right.

Blut Aus Nord are fookin' amazing. The Work Which Tranforms God is anyhow, I haven't heard much of their other stuff. I recently picked up an album by Spektr because someone told me they are similar (and our one one of the BAN dude's label I believe), but I haven't had a chance to listen to it just yet.

If you like the creepy black metal vibe of these dudes, check out Deathspell Omega (another French black metal act) and Leviathan. Not necessarily completely similar, but those two scare the bejesus out of me in the same way. Also maybe Negura Bunget, though they aren't scary so much as they are awesome.

If your going to listen to Leviathan then only listen to the older stuff. New Leviathan is pretty terrible. Also for the guy who said Deathspell Omega, i reccomend you check out Mutiilation. Its another french black legions band, one of my favorites next to Antaeus.

I am a big fan of The Work Which Transforms God...very cool album although I am not much of a black metaller. That reminds me Mr Till....didnt someone called Stupid Matt post a thread about black metal sucking?

It still sucks, but now I friggin' love it. Actually, I've noticed that about music. I use to hate Metal... then I fell in love with Megadeth (8th grade), I use to hate Primus (genre all it's own), then I listened to Primus for 3-4 years straight, I use to hate Prog rock... phht, now if something isn't odd timed, I hate it (not really), I use to hate Psych rock (no totally hippie crap for me).... I love it. I use to hate Black Metal... well, you get where I'm going with this.

I have yet to be converted to Country... but Hank III kicks some major ass.

Matt if you want to hear a really good ambient black metal album.....

Check out the Leviathan/Xasthur split. It came out a couple years back, but they re-released it a couple months ago on cd. Xasthur's stuff is extremely ambient on this album. Leviathan only has 3 songs, but its alot better than most of his newer material...

Ever check out Body Count, Matty? They're not so much ambient BM but are still really aggressive...

I only heard body count once, but I loved 'em.

Cop Killa

My friend had the Cop Killerless version, I have a feeling that the original is a rare find.
