The Brand New Heavies - Get Used To It

I just pickup this album up today. It's really cool. The usual grooves coming from BNH, and N'Dea sounds amazing as usual. I'm glad she's back. They have a great mix of tunes, with "Let's Do It Again" having a disco funk type vibe. it's a great album, well worth the money. Does anyone else own it? Anyone have any thoughts?

It sounds pretty good by the clips I've heard. I love Brother Sister. I may have to pick the new one up.

Count me as a Brother Sister fan followed closely by the Brand New Heavies.

I picked this new one the day it came out...good stuff, wish they would tone down the LOW end a bit (also evident on their last album).

Good topic Mark, thanks.

The Brand New Heavies played in the Philadelphia area twice this July 2006 touring to support the new release "Get Used to It". I'd like to post the set list for the Philly show. I saw the Atlantic City Borgota Casino show also, which IMHO, was a far better show than the Philly.

Right On
Dream on Dreamer
Daybreak
Keep Together (done as duet, N'Dea & Jan)
Midnight at the Oasis
Get Used to It
BNH
I Don't Know Why I Love You
Sex God
Let's Do It Again
Give It Up
Brother Sister
Stay This Way
_______________

Never Stop
Dream Come True

Both shows were amazing. The band grooved start to finish and it was a dozen little things that made the A.C. show better for me. Sets identical except Midnight was dropped in A.C. -- which was fine because at A.C. the band improvised more, Andrew Levy and Simon Bartholomew traded a few more solos.

In Philly, they did a really cool thing. Buy a CD there and meet the band after the show. Easy and sweet. Meeting Andrew, N'Dea, Jan, and Simon was a thrill for both my wife and me since we have been fans since the beginning. Simon especially was down to earth and genuine.

Another really cool thing...after the show an announcement was made on stage to save the ticket stubs and exchange it for a new seat at the casino show a week later. A real first!

There's a part two about the tickets for AC but it's a little off-topic from the music....which was slammin.

It was a great experience for me and further pointed me towards R&B and soul. Just wish I could find my copy of Brother Sister - it's MIA.

Cool, I sort of lost track of them since N'Dea left the band... now I gotta check them out again...

Thanx...

I picked this one up a few weeks ago, its my first Brand New Heavies album. I think its pretty good. I keep meaning to pick up Brother Sister. All in all the album's got some cool songs and N'Dea's vocals are really good.

+1, BNH definitely has a cool sound.

I really like Shelter, I think Siedah Garrett was the singer. There are a lot of cool grooves on that CD.

Jan Kincaid plays drums

Jan plays drums live, not keys, not this tour at least. He came out front and sang once on a duet.

There was also a percussion player. He sat at the drum kit while Jan sang.

Jan appears to be the band leader on stage, no surprise there. Bass and guitar looked to him for cues.

Hope this helps.

Did you get a chance to see what basses Andrew was using? I have yet to see these guys live. I didn't check their touring schedule yet but hope they come through or at least close to my area.

Andrew Levy Played a Fender

On the two shows I saw, Levy played a Fender 4-string for sure, P-bass I think. He had a second on the stage but didnt use it.

I have seen on previous tour photos that he has played a Warwick 5 string, Google a bit and you'll find some wild funky pictures of him playing live.

At the Philly show, I asked him if he played the Warwick at all on the new one, Get Used to It, and his response was that Warwick's have lost their character and he threw them out. "No character" I recall him saying....which was tough to hear since I play a Warwick (and like it).

So, Fenders on the current tour. Only one or two songs did I notice any effects, like on Sex God.

Get out and see them!!!! Look for some Sept 2006 dates.
