Bryan Ferry Sings Dylan!

This is probably going to be received with a yawn by most TBers, but Bryan Ferry has put out an album of Bob Dylan covers it's called "Dylanesque". I'm thinking of checking it out.

Any other Bryan Ferry fans?

This is the most incongruous thing I've ever seen.

What next? David Lee Roth fronting a bluegrass band? Oh wait, that actually happened.

Not really. Ferry's been a Dylan fan for many a year. He even recorded a cover of "A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall" on his first solo album.

Want something incongruous? Try Pat Boone's heavy metal album!

I talked to bass player Guy Pratt on his book tour recently, and asked him about this project. He conceded that even though it was good fun, it was perhaps not Brian Ferry's greatest achievement.

I'm not surprised. His version of "A Hard Rain..." wasn't a huge achievement either.

Guy Pratt has a book out? On what?

ummmm...

The material is great, and Ferry has a very serious and unique approach to it. I wish more TBers would take an interest in Dylan as a composer...yeah right. Not gonna happen for another 15 years.

He's doing a solo tour of the UK as well - it was something like "My Life as a Bass Player" ...?

So he is touring on his own talking about his life as a session bass player - taking questions etc.

As to the Ferry album - saw him on Jools Holland's Later doing it live - very, very dull!!

Googled it for you :

Thanks for the image. I might have to look into that. I like Pratt's work with the Dream Academy.

Which song did he do on the show? There's a blurb about Ferry in the paper today, but it's mostly about his acting(?) career.

On the plus side, it's nice to see an artist stepping out of his safety zone and doing a project he really wants to do. It might not be great but it's his thing, so more power to him.

Besides, the man's 61. He's been around long enough to record anything he wants.
