The Buggles.........Yeah, that's right, THE BUGGLES!

I finally received my copy of the remastered and rereleased version of The Buggles' classic debut album "The Age Of Plastic" the other day. What a treat to hear these songs again, this time in all their remastered glory. But, one of the three bonus tracks, "Island", is a particular standout. It has been discussed here on TalkBass in the past how great (and underrated) a bass player Trevor Horn was (and probably still is). One listen to "Island" will remove any doubt from skeptical minds out there. Reggae-oid noodlings in upper and lower registers with ultra killer tone at every turn. For you closet New Wavers out there, you owe it to yourself to track down this tune and give it a listen.

His playing on the rest of TAOP is great too, of course. There is so much more to this band than simply "Video Killed The Radio Star". If only their followup disc wasn't ridiculously rare and heinously overpriced.

Cool album. I'd also like to hear the out-of–print debut by "Bruce Woolly and the Camera Club", whose members included both Trevor Horn and Thomas Dolby. I guess it featured the original version of “Video Killed the Radio Star".

So many memories from this album. I bought it in 1980 and I was surprised to see that the sleeve had a really thick plastic cover. I think it had to do with the "age of plastic" concept, but I was surprised because the colombian manufacturers hardly respected foreign albums' original artworks. Aside from "Video..." I really liked the title track, "I love You (Miss Robot)" and also "Elstree" specially because of the horse galloping at the end. Also used the opening effects from "Living In The Plastic Age" for many home recordings (kidding with friends).

I saw that band play live when I was at college - they were pretty good and I remember being impressed by the keyboard playing, at a time when every band was into punk/post-punk - this was very different stuff - but we are talking about 20 years ago now!
