What's the definitive recording? There are so many I don't know which to get.

I think one of the beauties of "In C" is that the form/structure of the composition pretty much excludes the possibility of a "definitive recording" existing. Since every rendition will, by design, be anywhere from slightly to radically different from every other rendition, there can be no one iconic rendition.

Shameless Promotion Department: There's a recording floating around somewhere of an "In C" performance in Boston circa 1993 by The Relentless Compassion Orchestra that I played on.

I was anticipating a response like this (I share the sentiment).

Being familiar with the piece, is there a version you are particularly fond of (putting aside felling of pride for your rendition) or suggest to people who have yet to buy a recording of it?

thanks,
c
