My statement would have insulted too many people, yet I'm not allowed to do yet everyone else can.

Now, Here's a guy who CAN play with a pick...

This is on youtube - he warms up his fingers, but after 10 seconds goes for the pick - not too bad...

Great playing, though he does this little wanky thing in the middle that I don't dig too much.

I would love to play that fast.

But. (there is always one of those with me it seems lol)

I have re-discovered the beauty of Zep recently. Whole Lotta Love is 10X heavier than the 1st vid in this thread IMO. Speed isn't everything, but kudos for trying to "up your game". A lot of times really fast fills/bass solos can be really cool even in a middle of the metronome song.

Oh, and I can't really "rock out" playing that fast. I find it takes too much concentration. I like my playing better when I'm "feelin' it" and not having to look at what my hands are doing

That Matt Freeman video turned me right off him. The best part of the Maxwell Murder solo was that it was like... 9 seconds of a solo that left you thinking "that was pretty cool", one might even say tasteful just because of its brief nature. The solo in the video went for too long, he was playing way faster than he was evidently capable of because he kept going out of time and half the notes where unintentionally muted because he can't fret them properly because of what looks like poor bass position.

I'm all for the punk rock/rock star solo vibe and everything, but that was a truly terrible version of an otherwise good solo.
